Merrell Counseling
Space to understand deeply. Support for healing and growth.
Meet Cheryl
I’m Cheryl Merrell, a licensed mental health counselor in Utah, Idaho, and Texas.
I’m really glad you’re here. Something has brought you to this point—even if it’s hard to put into words.
You may have spent much of your life trying to do what was expected of you— being thoughtful, responsible, accommodating, or “good” for the sake of keeping peace, maintaining connection, or belonging. From the outside things may appear manageable, yet internally you may feel anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure of who you are underneath the expectations.
Together, we create a space where things can slow down. We move at a pace that honors you and what matters most to you—not imposing a direction, but supporting you in discovering what feels grounding and true for you.
We start where you are and move forward together, in a way that feels steady and sustainable.
Sometimes things just don’t feel sustainable
You might notice:
Feeling disconnected from yourself or unsure what you need
Repeating patterns in relationships that leave you feeling unseen or overextended
Wanting closeness, but also pulling back or shutting down
Anxiety, overwhelm, or a sense of being constantly “on edge”
Difficulty setting boundaries or speaking up for yourself
A quiet sense that something deeper needs attention
What feels confusing or frustrating often begins to make more sense when we understand where it comes from.
How We’ll Work
Therapy is something we move through together.
Our work is relational, attachment-based, and experiential— meaning we focus not only on what you think, but also on what you feel, experience, and carry internally.
We slow things down and begin to notice what’s happening in real time—your thoughts, emotions, physical responses, and the different parts of you that emerge. We pay attention to patterns that have formed over time, especially in relationships, and how they continue to shape your experience now.
Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we begin to understand what’s underneath them—what they’ve been protecting, and what they might be asking for. Many of the ways we adapt begin as attempts to stay safe, connected, or accepted.
Over time, this work can open space for more clarity, steadiness, self-trust, and deeper sense of connection, both within yourself and with others.
